CLASS OFFERINGS

GFKC offers classes in Dog Obedience, Rally, Agility, Puppy Kindergarten and Conformation Handling/Socialization. These classes are open to non-members as well as members. Members, however, can enjoy a price break for the cost of classes. Our classes are held mainly in the Spring, Summer and Fall. Some of the classes require that you pre-register. Copies of the registration form are provided at the appropriate links on this page.

CONFORMATION HANDLING CLASSES WILL BE HELD AT
Courthouse Community Center C, 29 Stafford Ave., Stafford, VA 22554 (Corner of Hope Rd and Stafford Ave)
Directions From I-95, Exit 140, Stafford
If you are coming I-95 South you will take a left off the exit. If you are coming I-95 North you will take a right off the exit. This will put you on Courthouse Rd, (Rt 630). Continue on Courthouse Rd for approximately 1 mile, cross through the Courthouse Rd - Jefferson Davis Hwy intersection, then make your first left onto Stafford Ave. The Courthouse Community Center is located at the end of Stafford Ave, on the left hand side.

Please note! GFKC CLASSES are at new locations!! One location is 589 Melchers Dr., Falmouth, VA, near Arby's. Turn at Arby's on Rt 17 Solomon Dr., then turn right on Melcher's Dr. and proceed to 589 Melchers Dr., then immediately past their drive and turn left into parking lot behind Melcher Center (old Gayle Middle School), which is next to their property.

OVERVIEW

PRICES
Agility - Class Fee is $80 for non-members, $55 for members 
Obedience (Companion Dog Training and Rally) -
     Class Fee is $75 for non-members, $50 for members
Puppy Kindergarten - $50 for non-members, $25 for members,
Conformation Handling - members and non-members: $5 per dog

DURATION
Agility, Obedience & Puppy Kindergarten - 1 hour classes each week for 6 weeks

Puppy Kindergarten Rules
Puppies must have proof that they have had two vaccinations and veterinarians verbal permission to attend the class. Puppies must be under 6 months of age. Bring puppy on a buckle collar and a 4 or 6 foot leather, cloth or nylon lead. You should also bring tiny food treats, i.e. string cheese sliced in to thin slices, and placed in a zip lock bag. Be sure your puppy has not eaten within two hours before class and bring water for you and your puppy as well as clean up bags. Exercise your puppy before you leave home and before coming into the building.

Agility Class Rules
Bring...a happy, healthy dog, water and bowl, a short tab lead, a 6-foot lead, lots of the doggy's favorite treats, a favorite toy, plastic baggies for picking up accidents, a buckle or snap collar (NO CHOKES OR PRONGS).
Students are responsible for:

  • Having dog exercised and warmed up before class begins (this means come early)
  • Keeping dog on lead and under control at all times
  • Keeping dog's nails as short as possible
  • Dog's attention needs to stay on handler and not on other dogs
  • Dog may NOT relieve themselves on the training field or equipmen
  • Dogs are not allowed on the field or equipment without instructor supervision
  • Dog should know basic obedience commands, including COME, SIT, DOWN, STAY
  • Dog must work well on lead
  • Handler must have control when working off lead
  • Handler/dog teams shall remain constant throughout the session
  • Classes are held rain or shine
  • Pets shall be flea and tick free (Preventive or spray is recommended
  • No aggressive dogs or bitches in season
  • Bathroom facilities are available
  • No smoking or alcohol within the agility area

You need to bring a copy of your dog's current Rabies certificate and proof that your dog is up to date on other vaccinations. Puppies need to have had at least 2 vaccinations and the permission of the their veterinarian to attend Puppy Kindergarten (6 months and under).
